What Is Laser Vision Correction?

During your consultation, you may be offered a newer diagnostic procedure called wavefront analysis. Wavefront technology was originally developed for high-powered telescopes, to sharpen the images of distant stars being distorted by the earth’s atmosphere.

More recently, this same technology has been used in correcting human vision. In 2002, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Custom LASIK, which is a wavefront-guided LASIK surgery. With this technology the surgeon can custom-sculpt the cornea, achieving greater accuracy of correction and fewer side effects.

Wavefront-guided LASIK is much better at diagnosing and treating the aberrations in your eyes. Traditional LASIK surgery measures the eye based on only one point and corrects only lower-order aberrations.

Why Choose Laser Vision Correction?

LASIK

LASIK is a laser vision correction procedure that can treat myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism to reduce or eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses. LASIK is accurate, safe, and has a very short recovery time with minimal discomfort.

PRK

PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) is another laser vision procedure that provides the same visual outcome as LASIK but only using one laser versus two. PRK is a great option for those with thin corneas or those who participate in high contact sports such as MMA.

EVO ICL

EVO ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) acts as an internal contact lens, providing immediate vision correction. It is best suited for people with moderate to severe nearsightedness and is a great alternative to LASIK, often producing visual results that are even better than traditional glasses or contacts.

RLE

Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) removes the eye’s natural crystalline lens and replaces it with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). Having RLE surgery before a cataract fully develops means you will never need cataract surgery later in life. The clear vision you receive after your RLE surgery will be the vision you have for the rest of your life.

RCS

Refractive Cataract Surgery (RCS) also removes the eye’s natural crystalline lens and replaces it with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). Technology of the IOL's have improved greatly over the years. Giving patients the ability to zoom in and out therefore reducing their needs for glasses or contacts.

LASIK Eye Surgery in

West Hills and Calabasas

Over 700,000 LASIK procedures are performed in the United States each year making it one of the most frequently performed elective surgeries. LASIK (LASER Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) has been FDA approved for over 20 years for the correction of myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness) and astigmatism.

The procedure consists of reshaping the cornea to conform to an individual’s glasses or contact lens prescription, thereby reducing or eliminating the dependence on corrective lenses. LASIK is now approved by NASA, the United States Military, and our nation’s first responders.

Premier surgeon, Dr. Jonathan Davidorf, has performed vision correction procedures for over 25 years. He continues to remain at the forefront of research and development, ensuring that his patients benefit from the safest and most precise technological advances.

Along with co-authoring the first textbook on LASIK, his research has included publishing two books and numerous articles about the LASIK procedure. The combination of Dr. Davidorf’s experience with state-of-the-art technology allows patients to achieve their best possible visual outcomes, often better than 20/20 vision.
